How Eaton's Leadership Development Program Empowers Me to Make an Impact

Human Resources Leadership Development Program Participant

In what ways has Eaton's Leadership Development Program impacted your career development so far?

Eaton's Leadership Development Program (LDP) has allowed me to work cross-functionally to drive business outcomes and develop our organizational capabilities. I have been exposed to countless opportunities and I am empowered to create change within our division. The Early Talent Team and leadership within the business fully supports the growth of employees, all while driving a work-hard, play-hard culture. Eaton's LDP has exposed me to various parts of the business and allowed me to see the impact strategic initiatives have throughout the entire organization. I have gained a better understanding of the significance of driving a unified culture and the benefits of consistent change management practices.

How do LDP assignments go beyond typical entry-level responsibilities?

Eaton is an organization that encourages development opportunities and cross-functional teamwork. There are immense experiences each employee can be exposed to, as long as you make these intentions known. I fully believe maximizing your time and experiences can help fundamentally shape your future. Within the Leadership Development Program, participants are tasked with day-to-day responsibilities with the capability of expanding to more if they choose. I have been active in campus recruiting, Advisory Committees, iERGs, and volunteer experiences within the community. There is true impact in immersing yourself in experiences that go a bit beyond standard tasks, especially when there is a direct benefit to the community around you.

What is your favorite project you worked on and what were your main responsibilities?

CPS Talent Week was an amazing opportunity to foster my passion for developing others, tied into creating impact based on our division's survey results. In preparation for this event, I was able to help curate our event's theme, slogan, and agenda, all while ensuring we had consistent messaging and intentions throughout the 2.5-day event. My manager and I connected with leaders within and outside of our division to encourage exposure, foster networking opportunities, and communicate the significance of building organizational capability. We assigned attendees various CPS business projects to engage in post-event with a cross-functional team. Lastly, we gained feedback and created knowledge share documentation to help other divisions benchmark in the future.

How do the opportunities you receive at Eaton compare to those in similar programs at other companies, based on your knowledge or research?

Eaton's culture is a driving force of differentiation amongst other companies. Although many other organizations have early talent initiatives, I believe the intentionality behind recruiting high-potential talent leads to empowerment amongst employees. When you are in the Leadership Development Program, you work on challenging assignments, projects, and tasks; however, you are also equipped with the tools and resources to manage them. You are also encouraged to participate in opportunities beyond your standard daily tasks, especially if you seek out these experiences. Because this organization motivates and places trust in its employees, you are encouraged to maximize your full potential.
