  • Open Compute Project Solutions

Eaton is now offering ORV3 solutions, combining OCP innovation with off-the-shelf convenience.

Eaton is officially a platinum member of the Open Compute Project!

Eaton and the Open Compute Project

The Open Compute Project (OCP) was founded by Meta, Rackspace and Intel in 2011 to apply open-source principles to data center hardware design with the goal of increasing innovation while reducing cost. Eaton has been an OCP member since 2017 and displayed new products at the 2022 and 2023 OCP Global Summit. Eaton will be attending the 2025 OCP Global Summit, be sure to visit our booth!

Combining OCP innovation with off-the-shelf convenience

With preconfigured, tested and validated solutions, Eaton allows its customers to deploy OCP ORV3 racks for testing or production without making a costly engineering commitment. Eaton’s reference designs are also fully customizable to meet the needs of individual customers and IT environments.

Eaton's OCP open-source hardware solutions eliminate:

  • Need for large engineering teams to design OCP-compliant hardware
  • Lack of choice in solution providers
  • Lack of established, familiar and trusted solution providers
  • Lack of off-the-shelf solutions
  • Lack of easily customizable solutions
  • Lack of transitional solutions that can support OCP-compliant 21-inch and EIA-complaint 19-inch hardware simultaneously

Eaton’s ORV3 rack solutions offer:

49U or 42U height
Flexible 19" and 21" mounting
With or without bus bar
With or without power shelf
Fully customizable

Busbar

OCP ORV3 rack busbar
The vertical ORV3 busbar distributes DC power from a power shelf to equipment mounted in the open rack through convenient blind-mate power connections.

Open Rack Enclosure

OCP ORV3 Open Shelf Doors Open
Based on an extra-wide and extra-deep cabinet with two locking colocation compartments, the open rack enclosure supports hybrid equipment mounting. Upper and lower sets of mounting rails are convertible to support 21-inch ORV3 equipment or traditional 19-inch EIA equipment, allowing the rack to support either standard or a mixture of both, which is the default configuration. The open rack enclosure is available with or without a built-in ORV3 busbar and ORV3 power shelf.

Power Shelf

ORV3 Power Shelf
The ORV3 power shelf provides up to 33 kW of DC power (26.5 kW N+1). It connects to the busbar through a convenient blind-mate power connection.

Versatility with power cords

OCP ORV3 universal AC connectors are detachable AC input power cords that connect to an ORV3 power shelf to support a variety of site power connections, including IEC and NEMA.
