Increasing efficiency in liquid processing

When pumping liquids in water and wastewater applications, the right technology can help operators to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs.

Consuming less energy and reducing wear

To reduce the total cost of ownership, while maintaining or even increasing availability, is a core priority for many liquid processing businesses. On top of this, regulatory requirements set forth by local, federal or regional governing authorities can create further challenges.

Planning and operating pumps to provide greater energy efficiency

Electrical and mechanical components such as drives, pumps and valves are typically combined in order to implement control tasks in fluid-power applications. Learn how energy consumption can be reduced and discover practical application examples.

Update ErP guidelines 1.07.2021

With the extensions of (EC) 640/2009 for the environmentally friendly design of electric motors, the use of IE3 and IE4 motors becomes concrete in certain areas of application: In two steps - by July 1, 2021 and July 1, 2023. In addition, the scope of the regulation was expanded. Our new white paper explains how these requirements can be easily adapted and how this can be used to successfully increase the energy efficiency of the drive system.

Variable speed pumps and efficient motors change the game

Traditionally, flow control was managed with constant speed pumps and valves. This implies a higher energy consumption and wear on check valves or flap traps. Pumps equipped with energy efficient motors and controlled by variable speed drives, not only consume notably less energy, they also reduce the wear on the flow control devices. On top of that, our PowerXL DG1 variable speed drives can control up to 5 pumps autonomously, without an additional PLC.

Basics about industrial pumping application

Saving energy and reducing operating costs are the central goals when it comes to optimize existing pumping application or design new solutions. Learn how you can use variable frequency drives in the best way to achieve these goals.

Fighting fire with the required water pressure

When fighting fire in buildings, human lives and assets are in danger, so sufficient water pressure is essential. Our PowerXL DG1 drives are optimized to operate fire pumps with different water pressure zones to supply several floors of a building. It is easily configured and fire mode enables the drive to operate even in conditions where others would have already failed.

The right pressure when you need it

Since the German based company Schneider Feuerschutz began using the PowerXL DG1 for their fire fighting system they can not only optimize costs by using smaller generators but they have also been able to increase reliability and reduce the complexity of the total system.

Reducing costs in water supply and distribution

When a pump station in the south of Germany needed to reduce its total cost of ownership (TCO), Eaton's partner Aquatech decided to install energy efficient motors and PowerXL DG1 variable speed drives. This not only reduced energy consumption by 15%, but also freed space and saved maintenance costs.

Improving purification plant management

The italian company Acque del Basso developed together with Eaton a solution to remotely control and monitor an entire water purification plant, diagnose and correct technical problems and thus save time and costs.

Water as a limited resource for agriculture

In more and more regions water is getting a limited resource which has to be used as optimized as possible. But modern agriculture is asking for more. They want not only to optimize the irrigation but as well the fertigation system in order to optimize the production.

Pumping station for agriculture 4.0

Eaton supports Gefion in automating and digitalizing irrigation and fertigation management systems in order to optimize agricultural production in terms of yield and quality. In addition, Eaton's solution for the pumping station makes water distribution more efficient than in traditional fertilization with the aim to improve crop sustainability and enable the entire system to be checked quickly and efficiently.

Find the best pumping solution

Pumps consume an increasing share of the energy worldwide. In agriculture, for drinking water production and distribution, but also in industry. The reason for this is not only the growing world population, but also climate change. Intelligent, energy-efficient solutions are required here. For single pumps as well as multi-pump applications, communication-capable solutions are required, including IoT connections to reduce the service effort for the often decentralized locations.
