VoCALL 16 Digital emergency voice communication system - Network

Eaton’s VoCALL 16 is a high specification digital, loop driven, intelligent  emergency Voice Communication System, offering sophisticated functionality along with a simple and intuitive end user interface.

This network* version enables a system installation of up to 32 main panels (MX) and network panels (NX) in any combination (a minimum of 1 MX is required). With a maximum of 16 outstations per panel, a total system size of 512 outstations is possible, all connected and communicating via isolated fault tolerant loops.

Digital audio communication achieves high audio quality and intelligibility, whilst the use of isolated loops reduces labour and material costs, removing the potential for wiring errors associated with traditional spur systems.

Digital immunity to noise

Noise injection can occur anywhere in a typical analogue emergency voice communication system and can be caused by a number of factors including electrical equipment with strong magnetic fields.

Why is noise an issue? 

Pure analogue signals can easily be affected  by noise causing a significant impact on the audio quality between the master handset and outstations. During an emergency, when time is critical, this can mean the difference between a successful or unsuccessful evacuation.  

The power of a digital signal

  • Digital signals do not require the precise evaluation of amplitude, phase or frequency.
  • Once encoded the digital signal offers very high immunity to external noise.
  • Any external noise is removed when the digital signal is decoded at the receiving end of transmission.
  • Results in crystal clear audio transmission when its required most.

Eaton's VoCALL 16 digital emergency voice communication system features loop cabling providing multiple benefits to the installation and ongoing use of the system including:

Reduced costs

  • Installation costs are significantly reduced as less cabling is required.
  • Labour costs are reduced as with less cable, fewer fixings and one VoCALL panel, the system is quicker to install.
  • Resource costs are reduced as fewer cable trays, conduits and fixings are required.

Time saved

  • There are fewer installation points because all outstations sit on the loop and not on individual lines.
  • Only one VoCALL panel is required for installation of up to 16 outstations, leading to faster installation. VoCALL 16 Network panels (NX) can be added for larger systems.

High system availability

  • Diverse cabling provides high availability: Without loop cabling a single line fault will result in loss of an outstation, or a single line fault between the main and slave panels will result in the loss of all outstations. With loop cabling a single fault results in no connection loss of any outstation.

Digital to Analogue Exchange 8 line DAX8

DAX8 is a loop powered digital to analogue convertor, used in conjunction with VoCALL 16 to ensure simplicity of future legacy system expansion. This loop powered convertor allows the connection of existing analogue outstations to a digital system. A maximum of 8 analogue outstations of any combination can be connected to the DAX8 with a maximum of two DAX8 units per panel. The loop wired connection to the DAX8 along with short circuit isolators ensures the network is robust and fault tolerant. Compatible analogue outstations include the type A, type B, Jack point and emergency assist alarm (EAA).

Easily connect your emergency alarm assist kit to VoCALL 16

The VoCALL Digital EAA interface enables you to easily connect your VoCALL 16 panel to your Emergency Alarm Assist (EAA) kit. Powered locally, it is possible to add up to 16 EAA units to the loop. 

Ease of installation and use

  • A reassurance light or sounder (not supplied) can be added to the system along with visual notification sticker (included)
  • If VoCALL 16 panel disablements are in place the EAA interface will override this allowing calls from the EAA through to the VoCALL 16 panel in the normal manner.
  • The interface connects to Eaton's popular CFEAPULLKIT stand-alone emergency assist alarm kit - everything needed to help you to conform to building regulations, whilst meeting the needs of disabled service users, is included.
