Cybersecurity is often associated with data and information technology (IT). We are all too familiar with the concept and dangers of IT systems being ‘hacked’. But what about systems outside the main data network? Operational Technology (OT) networks monitor and ensure the safety and health of building infrastructure that operates key systems including lights, elevators, and heating and cooling systems. Electrically-powered systems that traditionally were standalone are increasingly sophisticated and necessarily interlinked. In the worlds of IT and OT, the new buzzword is ‘electrification’ and that’s because power supply is critical to digitalization.
